Apple delivers…AT&T doesn’t. iPhone 3GS on the way.

Today was day 1 of the Apple WWDC and as always everyone sat on the edge of their seat for the new iPhone updates. A lot of the new specs have been out for weeks and Apple didn’t fail to deliver. MMS, cut/copy/paste, and 100 other featues will be in the new iPhone 3.0 OS. What bothered the crowd though? The fact that tethering will not be offered by AT&T (although it will be offered by 20 other carriers) and the fact that AT&T will not full support the MMS capability until late summer. Once again…Apple delivers and AT&T doesn’t. I understand that the iPhone is Apple’s “baby”, but AT&T always lets us down at iPhone time (crashed servers, poor customer support, conversion issues). This will be their third one and I guarantee that the iPhone 3GS launch will be just as much a clusterf**k as the initial iPhone launch. They’ve really gotten comfortable with their exclusivity deal. And sadly enough, we’ve made this ok. Listen up and listen well people. Don’t storm your local AT&T stores on launch day (June 19th, 3.0 software available June 17th). Wait a week or so and casually stroll in and pick one up without the hassle. Trust me when I say it’ll make your life easier.

Personally, I’m just going to update to 3.0 on the 17th and be perfectly happy until this time next year.

Update: AT&T will support tethering, but they we just don’t know when/how.

Lesson of the day: Apple is single-handedly sustaining AT&T.
