The best, worst idea ever.

In a news story that covers entertainment and politics at the same time (no such thing as politics in the entertainmnent industry right? where’s my sarcasm smiley?), long-time ticket giant tyrant TicketMaster is trying to push through a merger with concert portal LiveNation.  The subsequent company (name suggestions anyone?) will make it impossible to be a successful musician without paying TicketNation (simple yet effective) in blood.  In theory it sounds convenient to have a one stop shop for your booking manager, promoter, merchandise, and ticket sales, but it sounds vaguely like a MONOPOLY!  There will be no alternative if you’re an artist that wants to do live shows and every artist does live shows because CD/digital sales don’t even pay their iPhone bill.  It seems pretty obvious that this should be shot down given the glaring anti-trust violation, but stranger things have happened.  Luckily satellite radio wasn’t popular enough to corner the market after the XM/Sirius merger.  Hopefully Obama and the Boss see eye to eye on this one.
